Lyke Wake Walk 2010 in aid of AKC

Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues Now that I have had a chance to rest and relax, I am ready to face the world again! All that I can say is WOW! Thanks to each and everyone who donated money and gave me the most incredible support while walking on Friday and Saturday. As my walking partner and IBM colleague, Tony Armitage said, one word sums this walk up pretty well: OUCH! or EINA! in Afrikaans :-). It has been a very hard walk combined with torrential rain at times and very hot late afternoon sun.
Just a reminder why I did this walk: To raise money for Abraham Kriel Childcare in Langlaagte, Johannesburg and the Ikateleng Project from NWU University in Potchefstroom. Please donate money, by following the link. It is never too late to give...
Some stats from our walk: GPS Distance Walked - 40.7 Miles (this excludes the final walk back to the village (about 1.3miles, but felt like 10!!) GPS Walking Time - 15 hours 18 Mins GPS Stopped Time - 6hours 1 min GPS Speed - 2mph (average speed – at times we were up to 3 miles and hour and at times as slow as 1 mile an hour and at times we just sat on our back sides, contemplating life and wondered why we were doing it again!) Start in Ravenscar - 21:10 on Friday night Stop in Osmotherley - 18:15 on Saturday afternoon
Some questions people asked me: - Why was I doing this: For Abraham Kriel Childcare and NWU in Potch - How many times have we done this: I have now completed this walk twice, in each direction and Tony 9 times (6 x west to east and 3 x east to west (8 completed under 24 hours)) - How hard is it: At times you walk through hip high heather with no visible path. At times you climb almost straight up or straight down the side of the hills. The paths are made up of tiny little rocks most of the time. Tony fell into a hole that we couldn't see. We both fell several times during the night. I am losing several toenails and Tony blistered the soles of both feet.
Many thanks for your support. A small amount to you, can go a long way for these charities and the children they look after.
